Optical Pumping
Supervisor: Dr. Rustem Valiullin
This experiment introduces the method of optical pumping. The pumping light is produced with the help of a gas discharge in the investigated substance. For the detection of the optical pumping effect nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in a weak magnetic field is used.
- Furnish proof of the resonance signal of Caesium (hyperfine splitting in weak magnetic fields)
- Optimisation of the working process of the pumping light source
- Temperature dependence of the relaxation time of the Caesium resonance signal
- Measurement of weak magnetic fields including the magnetic field of the earth (total intensity, horizontal intensity)
- Furnish proof of the polarisation transfer from Caesium to Rubidium
- Temperature dependence intensity of the Rubidium resonance signal, relaxation time of the optimal signal
