Mass Spectroscopy on Gases and simple Organic Molecules
Supervisor: Dr. habil. Michael Lorenz
The experiment introduces the widespread analysing method of the molecular and the solid state physics and gives useful knowledge of the high-vacuum technique. Besides the basic of the kinetics of gases the principle of the quadrupole mass spectrometer are in the center of events.
The following exercises are to be solved:
- Atomic and molecular states
- Ionisation processes
- Interaction of charge carriers with dc and ac electric fields
- Mass separation by quadrupole/unipole and running time effects
- Vacuum technique
- Sample preparation
- Fragmentation
- Registration electronics
- Practical usage of a residual gas quadrupole mass spectrometer for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of known and unknown gases and molecules
