Keynote: Wavefront Microscopy for Thermoplasmonics, Nanophotonics and Cell Biology

This presentation aims at introducing an optical imaging technique called cross-grating wavefront microscopy (CGM), capable of mapping the wavefront profile of a light beam crossing a transparent object at the sample plane of a microscope. The objects of interest can be a gold nanoparticle, a 2D material, a metasurface, a microscale temperature field, a living cell, etc, making this technique versatile. The numerous applications will be reviewed. In particular, we will explain how CGM can (i) be used as a temperature microscopy technique in thermoplasmonics, (ii) fully characterize the optical properties of nanoparticles, 2D materials and metasurfaces and (iii) measure both the temperature and the dry mass of living cells in culture, such as thermophilic bacteria.
