Patrick Ness

This adventurous, young adult Sci-Fi novel about friendship, love, self-perspective and superpowers follows the almost ordinary life of Mikey how struggles to accept that he is ‘just’ an average kid in a small town. Mikey is unsure, whether his life is worth living because he has not done anything extraordinary or achieved something great in his life yet and there are only a few weeks left until he and his friends Nathan, Henna, Mel (Mike’s sister) and Jared will graduate. However, things around the friends are getting rather supernatural: ‘the indie kids’ of their school seem to have hidden powers, which they use to fight evil creatures like zombies, vampires and soul-eating ghosts. Will Mikey find the extraordinary in his ordinary life, get a chance to have an impact and realise that the people around him care?
