Book one of the series Percy Jackson & the Olympians is an empowering, American fantasy-adventure novel based on Greek mythology. 12-year-old Percy Jackson has ADHD and dyslexia and feels out of place at school. When he discovers he is a demigod, the son of a human and a Greek god, a whole new world unfolds. The ADHD and dyslexia he previously thought of as flaws give him quick reflexes and the ability to read Ancient Greek. He is taken to ‘Camp Half-Blood’, a training camp for other demigods, by a satyr named Grover. There he is given the task of finding Zeus’ lightning bolt to stop a war from erupting between the Greek gods. Together with his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy goes on a quest to find this lightning bolt, encountering several dangerous mythological creatures along the way.
