Cast Away
Summary
A classic case of a Robinsonade, this film explores the extraordinary life of Chuck Noland. As a systems analyst executive with a terrible work-life-balance, Chuck regularly travels for work. On his way to Malaysia, his plane crashes, leaving him stranded on an uninhabited island as the sole survivor. He spends the next four years with only his mind and a volleyball to keep him company. Will he be able to escape his fate of solitude?
This movie could act as additional material when discussing Robinson Crusoe, or on its own. Excerpts can also be used to discuss topics such as the American work-life-balance, consumerism and self identity.
