Klara is an Artificial Friend sold to the sickly girl to help her cope with the loneliness and help with her daily challenges. Klara narrates the story and has a remarkable observational capability particularly noticing the little things. Because of her limited life experience, she starts explaining situations she does not know or understand with a religious approach. She explores human emotions, especially love, and the importance of hope and faith.

The novel focuses on more than one current ethical issue and has a unique and innovative narrative perspective that provides an interesting view of AI.
