Based on the musical of the same name, this film is set in 1933 New York City, in the midst of the Great Depression. 11-year-old orphan Annie has always dreamed of being part of a family. Living in an orphanage and being abused by her caretaker, Annie’s life is far from glamorous. Her whole life is turned upside down when billionaire Oliver Warbucks decides to take an orphan in for the holidays. They grew fond of each other, and while Mr. Warbucks wants to adopt her, Annie still longs to find her biological parents.

This film would be suitable for an interdisciplinary teaching project in collaboration with History. It’s also the perfect length for a lesson right before Christmas. Other film adaptations are available too, one from 1982 as well as one from 2014.
