Prof. Dr. Matthias Middell is professor of Cultural History and director of the M.A. Program ‘Global Studies’ at the Global and European Studies Institute at Leipzig University, Germany. Moreover, he is the spokesperson of the Collaborative Research Centre 1199 ‘Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition’ as well as the Leipzig Research Centre Global Dynamics. Since 1991 he serves as editor of Comparativ. Journal of Global History and since 2015 he sits on the board of the International Committee of Historical Sciences.

His research focuses on dimensions of a comparative history of historiography with emphasis on world history writing during the 20th century, global history since the 18th century and in particular on processes of respatialization of the world as well as the history of cultural transfers.

Prof. Dr. Ulf Engel is Professor of Politics in Africa at Leipzig University, Germany, Professor Extraordinary in the Dept. of Political Science at Stellenbosch University, South Africa and visiting Professor at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. Since 2018 he is director of the Graduate Centre Humanities and Social Sciences at the Research Academy Leipzig.

His research focuses on international and regional organizations, specifically the African Union and the RECS/RMs, the African Peace and Security Architecture and the African Governance Architecture as well as German Africa policy and political developments in South Africa & Southern Africa.

Dr. Steffi Marung is senior researcher at the Global and European Studies Institute of Leipzig University and Director of its M.A. Program in ‘Global Studies’. She is also Principal Investigator of the research project “’Free radicals’? Political mobilities and post-colonial processes of re-spatialization in the second half of the 20th century“ at the Collaborative Research Centre 1199 at Leipzig University as well as Editor-in-Chief of Migration and Development (Routledge).

Her research focuses on the History of Eastern Europe with a focus on its transregional connections, in particular with African and Asia, in the 19th and 20th centuries, Global History of the Cold War, Mobility Studies as well as the Global History of Socialism.

Dr. Janine Kläge holds a PhD in Global Studies and Masters degree in Cultural Studies, French and African History from Leipzig University. During her  PhD she worked as a research fellow in the research programme “Changing Stateness in Africa” which was part of the DFG-funded Priority Programme 1448 “Adaptation and Creativity in Africa” (2011-2016). Since 2016 she is the academic coordinator of the MA and PhD Programme “Global Studies: Peace and Security in Africa” at the Global and European Studies Institute in Leipzig. Her research focuses on the Production and Circulation of Knowledge, History and Policies of Francophone Africa and Transnational and Global History.

Enrico Behne holds an B.A. in Anthropology and an M.A. in African Studies from Leipzig University. Since 2019 he is a PhD candidate at the Graduate School Global and Area Studies at Leipzig University. His research project investigates the African Union and its capacities for conflict management within the African Peace and Security Architecture and the African Governance Architecture, with a special emphasis on organizational change within the African Union Commission. His research interests focus transnational bureaucracies, especially the African Union Commission, international conflict management, particularly peacebuilding and conflict analysis.
