International Programmes Digital (IP Digital)

IP Digital is a funding program by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) that promotes digitalization in higher education in Germany. The Global and European Studies Institute (GESI) at Leipzig University has been selected to digitally advance its already successful master program in Global Studies with a Special Emphasis on Peace and Security in Africa (M.A. GSPSA), which is jointly offered with the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, since 2012/13. Through IP Digital, GESI will offer its first fully digital study program, the Digital M.A. GSPSA, in cooperation with the IPSS, at the beginning of the winter term 2021/22.

Against the background of rapidly changing conditions for and demands in international higher education as well as the possibilities provided by digitalization, international study programs have to respond creatively to these structural changes. IP Digital takes these changes as a starting point and aims to support higher education institutions in offering fully digitized study programs to an international audience.

With support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research the DAAD funding programs has two main objectives: first, it wants to support institutions for higher education in Germany to offer digital (international) study programs and, second, to lay out the structural framework for further digitalization projects at the respective institutions. To that end, 19 projects all over Germany have been selected for a funding period from 2020-2022.
