Lecture on Quantum Sensing SoSe 2024 (with bi-weekly exercise)

Lecture: Thursday 15:15-16:45 SR 225 Linnéstr. 5, starting on 04.04.2024
Excercise (bi-weekly): Thursday 17:00-18:30 SR 225 Linnéstr. 5, starting on 18.04.2024

Topics to be discussed:

• Basics of Quantum mechanics
• Definition and basic principles of Quantum sensing (e.g. coherence, measurement protocols, noise, sensitivity)
• Examples of Quantum Sensors and their operation (e.g. Atom Interferometry, Atomic vapor cells, superconducting structures, NV centers in diamond,...)
• Applications of Quantum Sensing (e.g. Gravity-Gradiometer, Measurement of magnetic fields in the brain MEG, Detection of Bio-Magnetismus and Temperature in cells with nanometer resolution, single molecule magnetic resonance,...)
• Advanced Measurement techniques of Quantum Sensors (Using Entanglement, Squeezing, Quantum Memory and Quantum Error correction, Entangled photons,...)

Specialized Topics of Solid State Physics - Quantum Optics

Dear students,

welcome to the advanced seminar "Specialized Topics of Solid State Physics" in the summer term 2024. In this seminar, you will chose a topic of current research in the field of solid state physics. The seminar will be organized on mondays from 3:15-4:45 pm in SR 225.

With support from the lecturers, you'll prepare a talk on the chosen topic (45 min, 35+10) and present it in a seminar to all participants. An important part of this seminar are open discussions of the results and findings following each presentation. Therefore it is mandatory that all students are present in the seminars, even if they don't present themselves at the given date. You will then summarize the topic and the results of the discussion in a written expose, which has to be submitted within three weeks after the talk.

Details on the organization of the seminar will be discussed at the start of the term. Please find more information about the seminar on: https://moodle2.uni-leipzig.de/course/view.php?id=49148

Best wishes,

Nabeel Aslam, Baha Sakar
