Plastics meets medical technology

Lecture as part of the network event of the Kunststoff-Zentrum Leipzig

From January 31 to February 1, 2024, the networking event “Plastics meets Medical Technology” of the Kunststoff-Zentrum will take place in Leipzig. The series of events offers an interface between plastics and medical technology, where experts from both sectors can meet and share their specialist knowledge on innovative approaches and tried-and-tested experiences.
As part of the event, Dr. Susanne Ebitsch, Executive Director of b-ACT matter, will give a presentation at BIO CITY Leipzig.

The plastics and medical technology industries are currently operating in a dynamic market environment: global megatrends such as sustainability, digitalization and demographic change are having a significant impact on decisions in companies and research institutions. How are both sectors dealing with the current challenges and far-reaching changes? What can be derived from this for your own company? The networking event will address these questions.
Theoretical requirements versus practical experience will be examined in detail in high-caliber presentations on topics such as materials, design, function & research, processes, measurement technology and quality.
Around 150 participants from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland are expected to attend the event.

The event will be accompanied by exhibitors from both sectors, excursions to companies and scientific institutions involved in medical technology and medical research in Leipzig, as well as a networking evening at Da Capo.

One of the event excursions will go to BIO CITY: Dr Susanne Ebitsch, Executive Director of the Research and Transfer Centre for Bioactive Matter b-ACT matter, will give a lecture during the event and present the work of the centre as well as technologies based on so-called hybrid living materials. If you are interested in attending the event, please register via the Kunststoff-Zentrum Leipzig website:

REPLACER at the Saxon Transfer Forum 2023

The Saxon transfer community met at Halle/Leipzig Airport in November

Halle/Leipzig Airport, is a place to take off and therefore perfect for a meeting of the Saxon transfer community on 16.11.2023. In his welcome address, Thomas Kralinksi, Saxon State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Labour, emphasized that transfer must always be considered, even in research. Dr Andreas Handschuh, Saxon State Secretary for Science, Culture and Tourism, explained that one of the main demands of the “university development plan” was to establish a stronger bridge between business and research.

At our booth, we convinced all visitors that we have already set out to accelerate the transfer from the university with the b-ACTmatter Research and Transfer Centre for Bioactive Matter.

In the REPLACER project, we are working with Leipzig and other European partners to develop high-performance hybrid living materials (HLM) that will be an energy- and cost-efficient solution for producing biomass as animal feed (microbial proteins) using greenhouse gases.

REPLACER participates at Long Night of Science

REPLACER takes part in the Science Night 2023

On 23 June 2023, Leipzig’s scientific institutions, associations and companies from various sectors presented a wide range of topics for visitors to discover, try out and participate in. The team, led by coordinator Dr. Rohan Karande, presented their project to visitors, using column bioreactors to demonstrate how microbial biomass can be produced from carbon dioxide and methane as a value-added animal feed product.
