Getting to Leipzig
By plane
Many routes are possible coming to Leipzig. However, if you want to go to GAMESCOM in Cologne after the conference (we’ll give you more details about it), then we suggest to fly back via Frankfurt (which is one hour train from Cologne). The main international airport in Germany is in Frankfurt (FRA).
The closest airport (regional): Airport Leipzig/Halle (Homepage). Direct flights from Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Vienna, Zurich.
From the airport, the S-Bahn lines S5 and S5X will take you to the centre. They run every 30 minutes.
Where to get off:
- To the conference venue: Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz ZUG
- To Motel One Augustusplatz: Leipzig Markt
- To Leipzig main station / Hotel Ibis/ Novotel/ A & O Hotel/ Globetrotter: Hauptbahnhof
A 3-zone-ticket in the regional service MDV is €4,40.
Also, an InterCity train runs every hour. Please note that the regional service ticket is not valid there. You have to acquire an intercity ticket for €6. There are vending machines at the platform. Please get off at Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (Central station).
By train
Leipzig main station is connected to most major German cities and can easily be accessed by IC and ICE trains (which are the high-speed trains). In front of the station is the nodal point of Leipzig’s public transport system. From there you can reach the conference venue as well as the hotels listed above on foot.
Information & tickets: Deutsche Bahn
By car
The city centre is in large parts a pedestrian area. You will find parking decks in Karstadt, at Augustusplatz square, at Marktgalerie and at the Höfe am Brühl. Please also ask your hotel about special parking. Leipzig has an environmental zone since 2011. You will need a green badge to enter most parts of the city.
