Fabio Ciotti (tenured Assistant Professor) teaches Digital Literary Studies and Theory of Literature at the University of Roma Tor Vergata. He is President of the Associazione per l'Informatica Umanistica e la Cultura Digitale (AIUCD, the Italian Digital Humanities Association), and editor in chief of the journal Umanistica Digitale. He is a member of the EADH (European Association of Digital Humanities) Executive Board and of the Joint Research Committee of the European ERIC DARIAH-EU.

His scientific and research work covers various aspects and themes of Digital Humanities and Literary Studies, both from the theoretical and the practical point of view: the applications of computational methods to the analysis of narrative texts; digital text encoding and editing; applications of XML and TEI technologies to literary texts and corpora; modelling and creation of digital libraries; application of Semantic Web / Linked Data principles and technologies to humanities digital libraries and textual corpora.

He has been involved in several digital humanities projects in cooperation with various institutions. Among the most important: Biblioteca Italiana (Italian literary tradition, http://www.bibliotecaitaliana.it); DigilibLT (Late Latin tradition, http://www.digiliblt.unipmn.it/); Geolat, which aimed to build an ontology to annotate geographical knowledge in ancient classical texts; Memorata Poesis (Italian Ministry of University funded project -PRIN 2010/11) for the thematic annotation of Latin and early Italian texts. He has been Scientist-in-charge on behalf of the Sapienza University in the DIXIT Marie Curie ITN EU funded project. Fabio Ciotti has been organizer or member of the program committees of various national and international conferences (TEI Conference and Members Meeting 2013 and 2014; AIUCD conferences, IRCDL; DH). He is co-chair of the programme committee of the DH2019 Conference, to be held in Utrecht (NL).

Fabio Ciotti è Ricercatore TI all'Università di Roma “Tor Vergata”, dove insegna “Informatica applicata al testo letterario” e “Teoria della Letteratura”. È attualmente presidente della Associazione per l'Informatica Umanistica e la Cultura Digitale (AIUCD) e direttore della rivista sociale Umanistica Digitale; è membro dell’EADH (European Association of Digital Humanities) Executive Board e della Joint Research Committee della infrastruttura europea DARIAH-EU.

L’attività scientifica e didattica di Fabio Ciotti si è rivolta a molteplici aspetti e temi delle Digital Humanities, sia dal punto di vista teorico e metodologico sia da quello sperimentale e applicativo. Si è occupato in particolare dell’applicazione di metodi computazionali all’analisi dei testi letterari; dell’uso dei linguaggi di XML e TEI in ambito umanistico; della progettazione e implementazione di biblioteche digitali; dell’applicazione di modelli e tecnologie del Semantic Web alle discipline umanistiche.

Fabio Ciotti ha partecipato a progetti di ricerca nazionali ed europei. Ha organizzato ed è stato membro del comitato scientifico di numerose conferenze nazionali ed internazionali (TEI Conference and Members Meeting 2013 and 2014; AIUCD conferences, IRCDL; DH) ed è Chair della conferenza DH2019 che si terrà a Utrecht (NL).
