In this hands-on workshop, students will have the opportunity to improve their academic note-taking skills while listening to academic lectures and engaging with academic texts. the workshop will focus on identifying main ideas, reading and listening for signposting, and recognizing rhetorical devices. Various note-taking strategies such as the cornell method will be practiced and multiple text types reviewed. group tasks and peer review will also give participants the chance to learn from each other. By the end of this workshop, students will be able to approach their studies better equipped with new strategies for undertaking academic research in English.

Bachelor’s and master’s students

Students will

  • improve their ability to take notes more effectively through hands-on
  • practice reliable methods for better note-taking and develop a
    personal approach; and
  • gain better skills by sharing strategies with peers from a range of
    academic fields.
