In this first of a three-part series, students will have the opportunity to improve their academic skills in reading academic texts. the workshop is especially designed for students who want to develop new reading strategies and share their ideas with their peers. It will include strategies such as reading actively and critically, skimming for gist, scanning for details, and identifying main ideas. Various reading strategies will be reviewed and a variety of authentic texts will be analyzed. group tasks and peer review will also give participants the chance to learn from each other. By the end of this workshop, students will be able to approach their studies better equipped with new strategies for undertaking academic research in English.

Bachelor’s and master’s students

Students will

  • improve their ability to effectively grasp and notate key messages in a
  • gain a deeper understanding of lexical patterns and stylistic features
    in English; and
  • know how to use reflective practice to improve their attention and
    reading comprehension.
