[j]Games Lab

Leipzig University has received a generous donation of approximately 4500 video games from the Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) Japan. Using this donation as a starting point, the Japanese Videogames Research Initiative (jGames) and Leipzig University Library are working together in order to establish Japanese video games as a research focus at Leipzig University.

We will report about our efforts to process the donation on our blog “1box/week“, which we will also use as a playfield for students to review games.

The twofold aim of this project is

  1. to make the donation accessible to researchers, teachers, and students working on Japanese video games
  2. to create a research database of Japanese video games.

Processing the collection is also an opportunity to help preserving an important part of digital culture, which is already becoming less accessible today, given the speed of technological development.

This is a unique website which will require a more modern browser to work!
